Group Visits

Group visits are welcomed at the Sime Gallery and can be tailored to the needs of each party, providing visitors with choice. Group visits must be pre-booked to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all, and to protect the artwork and objects on display.

Option A

Sime Gallery group visit (unguided)

Discover Sidney Sime’s fantastical Victorian/Edwardian-era oil and watercolour paintings, illustrations and landscapes, theatrical caricatures and caricatures of local Worplesdon residents displayed in the Sime Gallery. This is a self-guided visit but our volunteer steward will be available to answer your questions.

Tea/coffee and cakes can be purchased from our Tea Room, subject to availability.

Option B

Sime Gallery group visit with guide plus tea/coffee and cakes

You will be warmly welcomed by one of our expert guides who will give an introductory talk on Sidney Sime. In this talk you will learn more about the fascinating life and career of Sidney Sime, and the history of the Sime Gallery. You will then discover the Gallery, where fantastical Victorian/Edwardian-era oil and watercolour paintings, illustrations and landscapes by Sidney Sime are displayed alongside theatrical caricatures and caricatures of local Worplesdon residents.

To complete your visit, you will be invited into our Tea Room where you will be served tea/coffee and delicious cakes, all freshly prepared by our wonderful volunteers.

Option C

Guided group visit to Sidney Sime Gallery and Grade I listed St. Mary’s church, where Sidney Sime is buried, plus tea/coffee and cakes

As well as discovering the Sime Gallery, on this tour you will also visit nearby St. Mary’s Church, which dates back at least 1,000 years and is where Sidney Sime was laid to rest.

Our expert guide will welcome you and will give an introductory talk on the fascinating life and career of Sidney Sime, and the history of the Sime Gallery. You will explore the Gallery, where fantastical Victorian/Edwardian-era oil and watercolour paintings, illustrations and landscapes by Sidney Sime are displayed alongside theatrical caricatures and caricatures of local Worplesdon residents.

You will then be accompanied by our guide on the short walk (600 metres) to the Grade I listed St. Mary’s Church. Mentioned in the Domesday Book, St. Mary’s retains several early features including the Chantry Chapel built in the 11th century. In the beautiful and tranquil Churchyard, you will visit the grave of Sidney Sime.

Returning with our guide to Worplesdon Memorial Hall, home to the Sime Gallery, you will be invited into our Tea Room where you will be served tea/coffee and delicious cakes, all freshly prepared by our wonderful volunteers.

Additional Information for Group Visits

The Sime Gallery can accommodate a maximum of 15 visitors at one time. For larger groups choosing option A, we recommend visiting our Tea Room whilst you wait for space to become available. For larger groups choosing option B, the group will be split, alternating between the Tea Room and the Gallery. For larger groups choosing option C, we will provide more than one guide with some groups starting their visit at St. Mary’s Church and some at the Sime Gallery.
